{"id":10239,"date":"2023-05-19T09:31:25","date_gmt":"2023-05-19T07:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sibayaprecinct.co.za\/site\/?p=10239"},"modified":"2024-10-06T21:42:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-06T19:42:33","slug":"city-nature-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sibayaprecinctmgt.co.za\/site\/city-nature-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"City Nature Challenge 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, April 28th, members of the Sibaya Conservation Trust, Umdloti Conservancy, WESSA wildlife guides, and Sibaya precinct residents participated in the Annual City Nature Challenge. The objective of this challenge was to explore local natural areas while also contributing to citizen science by recording photographic observations of nature through the Inaturalist app.<\/p>\n<p>The team slowly meandered through the shaded trails of the Sibaya Forest, enjoyed the oceanic blue of Peace Cottage beach and a beautiful autumn morning walk through the surrounding grassland, all while making interesting nature observations. These observations included insects such as Tented Caterpillars that build their homes in the leaves of coastal Milkwoods, mammals such as Bushbuck and Red Duiker, trees such as the Forest Croton, and thorny creepers such as the Cats Claw creeper. Additionally, they made some cool bird observations, including the beautiful calling Forest Weaver.
