As we approach the summer rainfall season, the Sibaya Precinct Management Association (SPMMA) has been hard at work across both the precinct and the forest, ensuring that infrastructure, landscapes, and conservation areas are well-prepared for the months ahead.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure and Precinct Readiness<\/h3>\n

Progress continues on two major infrastructure priorities \u2014 the completion of Heleza Boulevard<\/strong> and the Node 5 attenuation dam<\/strong>. Proactive site inspections and engagements with property owners are underway to ensure both projects are prepared for the upcoming summer rains.<\/p>\n

In addition, planning for CCTV installation along Heleza Boulevard<\/strong> is progressing well, with the rollout expected in the final quarter of the year. On the ground, a new patrol and utility quadbike has been introduced to replace the older unit, strengthening mobility for security and maintenance teams across the forest and beaches.<\/p>\n

Cleaning, Greening, and Landscape Maintenance<\/h3>\n

With summer on the horizon, our landscaping teams have been preparing the gardens and common property to flourish after the rains. Activities included weeding, pruning overgrown trees and bushes, and restoring flowerbeds across the precinct.<\/p>\n

Beach maintenance also remains a priority, with teams responding to incidents of smouldering fires on the dunes near the coastal forest. These fires pose a serious risk to both people and the environment, and we ask all residents and visitors to report any smouldering fires immediately<\/strong> to ensure they can be addressed swiftly. In total, 179 bags of litter<\/strong> were removed from conservation areas and common property this month, a clear reflection of our teams\u2019 dedication to keeping Sibaya clean and safe.<\/p>\n

Forest Conservation and Rehabilitation<\/h3>\n

One of the most significant milestones this month was the launch of a three-month special project in Node 5 forest<\/strong>. A dedicated 10-man team has been deployed to bring this section up to the same standard as Node 1. Once complete, the restored trails and forest space will be incorporated into the broader Sibaya trail network, creating an even more accessible and enjoyable conservation area.<\/p>\n

Alien invasive plant control also continued at pace, with 21 hectares cleared<\/strong> and 10 species targeted<\/strong>. Conservation patrols removed seven snares<\/strong> across 12 hectares of forest, helping safeguard local wildlife. Despite limited rainfall, maintained water points have ensured ongoing support for animals until wetter conditions arrive.<\/p>\n

Biodiversity and Citizen Science<\/h3>\n

Our iNaturalist<\/a> biodiversity records<\/strong> continue to grow steadily. To date, we\u2019ve logged 1,208 observations<\/strong> across 529 species<\/strong>, highlighting the ecological richness of the Sibaya Coastal Forest. These citizen science contributions not only strengthen monitoring but also help track the long-term health of our environment.<\/p>\n
