Explore and Document Nature: Join the Great Southern BioBlitz 2025 in Sibaya

Community and Sustainability

From 24–27 October 2025, Sibaya will be part of the Great Southern BioBlitz (GSB)—a citizen science initiative that brings together communities across the southern hemisphere to document and celebrate biodiversity.

During these four days, residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the Sibaya Coastal Forest, grasslands and beaches, using the iNaturalist app to record sightings of plants, animals, insects, fungi, and other living organisms. Every observation adds to a global biodiversity database, helping scientists, conservation agencies, and communities better understand and protect ecosystems.

Why Participate?

  • Observations are shared globally via the GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) for science.

  • Data is used by conservation agencies and Red List teams to track species and habitats.

  • Participation helps map species ranges, unusual habitats, and range extensions.

  • It supports planners, students, and hikers in deepening their knowledge of local biodiversity.

Sibaya’s Role

Our precinct’s biodiversity is one of its greatest assets. From coastal birds and indigenous plants to the thriving wildlife of the forest, your contributions will showcase Sibaya’s rich natural environment to the world.
