Nature taking its course in the precinct

Community and Sustainability

A small and formidable predator! This is the doing of a Shrike bird! Pictured here is a land snail pierced into a spike on the Kei Apple Tree (Dovyalis caffra) in the precinct. The Shrike leaves its prey like this for a day or two and then returns to eat it up for a few days. It is known for its habit of impaling prey on sharp objects, such as thorns and barbed wire fences.
