Over 23 Hectares Cleared and 570 Species Logged in Sibaya

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

Sibaya’s environmental management programme delivered meaningful impact this month, with a focus on biodiversity protection, invasive species control, and habitat maintenance.

Environmental teams were active across forest, grassland and servitude areas, implementing targeted interventions to preserve the ecological integrity of this sensitive coastal environment. Highlights this month include:

  • 23.4 hectares cleared of invasive alien vegetation (with a focus on priority species such as Chromolaena, Tecoma and Silver Oak)
  • Trail-edge maintenance and erosion control
  • Servitude mowing and water-point cleaning

1 354 Observations Recorded in Sibaya Coastal Forest

Biodiversity monitoring continues to provide encouraging insights into the health of the Sibaya ecosystem, with:

  • Now 1,354 recorded observations on the Sibaya Coastal Forest Reserve iNaturalist across 570 species, with additional species recorded during June.
  • Two previously ringed Spotted Ground Thrush were recaptured, contributing to important research on seasonal movement patterns.

Through consistent intervention, monitoring, and maintenance, Sibaya continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainable environmental management.
