Revitalising Sibaya: recent rains, landscaping, and proactive maintenance

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

Our precinct has seen some exciting developments over the past few weeks as we continue to prioritise the upkeep and beautification of our natural spaces. From refreshing landscaping efforts to proactively managing storm events, here’s a detailed look at the latest cleaning, greening, and maintenance initiatives around Sibaya.

Nature’s Boost: Rains Rejuvenate Landscaping

The recent rains have been a breath of fresh air for our precinct, particularly for the formal landscaping and the Coastal Forest. These showers came at just the right time as we head into the festive season. Our teams were well-prepared for this seasonal shift, having replanted wilting flowers with vibrant new greenery sourced from our expanding nursery. We’ve also applied annual fertiliser to ensure the landscaping continues to thrive.

Our nursery is growing daily, providing a sustainable supply of plants that not only enhance the beauty of the precinct but also support its biodiversity. This self-sustained approach allows us to refresh the area regularly, ensuring it remains lush and colourful.

Fighting Tree Threats: Shot Hole Borer Treatment

In addition to the landscaping efforts, our team has been treating trees along Heleza Boulevard that have been infected by the invasive Shot Hole Borer. This destructive beetle burrows into trees, causing damage that can lead to tree decline or death if left unchecked. Our early intervention, which includes targeted treatments, has been crucial in protecting these trees and preventing the spread of this invasive pest.

Storm Response: Proactive Measures Keep the Precinct Safe

We’re pleased to report that the recent storm event caused no permanent damage within the precinct. Thanks to the proactive measures taken by our maintenance teams, such as regular de-silting operations and drain unblocking, we were able to mitigate any significant impact.

These efforts, including the maintenance work along the M4, ensure that our drainage systems are always prepared for heavy rainfall, reducing the risk of flooding and protecting both infrastructure and natural spaces.

What’s Next: Preparing for a Vibrant Festive Season

As the festive season approaches, our teams are focused on making sure Sibaya is looking its best. The rains have provided a timely boost to our landscaping, and with continued maintenance and care, we’re excited to see the precinct in full bloom.

We’re grateful for the support of our community and look forward to keeping you informed about future projects and improvements as we continue to revitalise our beautiful precinct.
